IND vs BAN, 2nd T20I: The Men in Blue were in a state of bother as they were 41/3 after openers Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, and skipper Suryakumar Yadav fell cheaply but the Indian captain made a shocking revelation and admitted that he wanted this situation where his middle-order batters like Rinku Singh, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Hardik Pandya perform brilliantly under pressure situations. After suffering a batting collapse the team bounced back quickly and posted a mammoth target of 221/9 won the match by 86 runs and are leading the three-match T20I series by 2-0.
Rinku Singh (53) and Nitish Reddy (73) played aggressive cricket and went all-guns-blazing against the Bangladesh bowlers and helped the team bounce back. Hardik Pandya (32) and Riyan Parag (15) too scored quickfire knocks and they smashed 14 sixes thus putting the team in a commanding position.
During the post-match presentation, Suryakumar Yadav heaped praises for performing well under pressure situation. "I wanted that situation. I wanted my middle-order (5, 6, 7) to bat under pressure and express themselves. I'm really happy with the way Rinku and Nitish played. They batted exactly as I wanted," he said.
The Indian bowlers performed equally well. Suryakumar Yadav made a bold move as he used seven different bowlers during the second innings and it was the first time in the history of the shortest format that all the bowlers took one wicket at least. It should be noted here that Hardik Pandya didn't bowl a single over as the other bowlers were more effective and helped the team skittle Bangladesh out for 135/9.
"I wanted to see what different bowlers could do in various situations. Sometimes Hardik won't bowl, and sometimes Washington Sunday won't bowl. I'm very happy with the way the bowlers stepped up," he revealed.
Nitish Reddy performed brilliantly both as a batter and a bowler as he scored his first international half-century and also took two wickets. His brilliant all-around abilities helped him become the first Indian cricketer to have scored more than 70 runs and taken two wickets in a single T20I match and was thus adjudged the Player of the Match award in just his second international match.
Talking about his performance, Reddy said, "It feels great to represent India. I'm grateful for the opportunity and the trust the captain and coach gave me. After that no-ball, everything went in my favor, and I'm just happy I could contribute to the team."
Shanto rues the same mistakes
At the same time, the Bangla Tigers once again performed poorly. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto admitted they didn't learn from their past mistakes. Although the bowlers were impressive initially they couldn't maintain that consistency in the middle overs and helped the hosts post a mammoth target.
"We made the same mistakes as we did in the first game. We didn't execute our plans well after the first 6-7 overs. Our bowlers did well initially, but we couldn't take wickets in the middle overs. We need to take responsibility as batsmen and believe in ourselves," Shanto told broadcasters in the post-match presentation. Although the Men in Blue have won the series, the visitors will aim to bounce back in the last T20I, which will be held on Saturday.
