Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has an excellent record to display as T20I captain, winning series against Australia, South Africa, England, as well as an Asia Cup title, which was played in a politically charged atmosphere. Suryakumar's prowess as a captain did not just augur well in India but in the sub-continent, but in the overseas tours as well. However, the Indian Team management has taken a bold step to promote Shubman Gill as vice-captain of the T20I side recently.

It is safe to say that Gill is being pushed to take over as captain in the near future. However, when is it going to happen, and the other important question is - isn't Suryakumar bothered about it?

“It motivates you to do better," Suryakumar was quoted as saying by The Indian Express when quizzed about this.

“The camaraderie between the two of us is amazing off the field and on the field. I know the kind of player he is, the kind of human being he is. It helps me to do well myself."

“I left fear long back. I believe if I am following everything that has to be followed, working really hard, everything will be taken care of. But I am really happy for him. He has done really well," he added.

Suryakumar has had a long history with Gambhir as he often refers to him as a 'brother', highlighting their bond which got even stronger.

“There is no need for words. Because our relationship is like one between two brothers. I have played in franchise cricket with him for four years in Kolkata Knight Riders," Suryakumar said.

“I have learned a lot from him. Now life has come full circle. He’s the coach of the Indian team. Not much discussion is required between us on matters like choosing the playing 11. Ninety-nine per cent of the time, it’s the same. On the ground, if I need to make a decision, I look towards the dugout and if he signals, I don’t even think twice," he added.
