IND vs USA, 2024 T20 World Cup: USA did put up a fighting total in their 2024 T20 World Cup match against India in New York on Wednesday but were punished with five penalty runs. They were given the penalty as they failed to bowl the next over within 60 seconds after finishing the earlier over.

“If the bowling team is not ready to bowl the next over within 60 seconds of the previous over being completed, a 5-run penalty will be imposed the third time it happens in an innings,” the statement released by ICC said.

The on-field umpires gave a warning to USA’s stand-in skipper Aaron Jones twice for not following the stop-clock rule and after their third offense, the umpires decided to give India five penalty runs.

Even before this tournament began, the ICC had admitted that they would be using this rule in the tournament and T20Is in general, and has become a permanent rule in the white-ball format, which also includes the ODIs.

With five runs being awarded, things became quite easy for the Rohit Sharma-led side as Suryakumar Yadav scored a match-winning half-century and helped the team win their third consecutive match in the ongoing tournament.

Arshdeep Singh was the pick among the bowlers as he registered his career-best figures of 4/9 and thus rattled America’s batting lineup during the first innings. He took two wickets in his first over and then took as many in the 20th over.

After the win, the Rohit Shara-led side has now qualified for the Super 8 stage on the back of winning three consecutive matches. On the other hand, the USA will aim to bounce back and beat Ireland by a huge margin to qualify for the Super 8 stage.
