T20 World Cup 2024: Former England captain Eoin Morgan believes that team India is the 'strong side' heading into the T20 World Cup 2024 which kicks off on June 2 in the West Indies and the USA.
India will continue their hunt for an ICC trophy under Rohit Sharma's captaincy as they gear up for action in the marquee tournament.
Morgan acknowledged and lauded the immense depth in the Indian team which he expects will come out as a major threat to other teams in the showpiece event.
“The strongest side, even with injuries throughout the tournament, is India, without a doubt. Their strength and depth is absolutely incredible at the moment. And it’s almost probably, we’re talking about who the players that were missed out in their squad of 15 because of the quality that they possess,” Morgan said.

“They are favourites for me. I think that they’re just the quality that they have on paper. If they produce it, I think they can, they can beat anybody quite well in the tournament,” he added.
Notably, India will kick off their campaign in the tournament with the match against Ireland which is scheduled to be played in New York.
India, who are placed in Group A along with Ireland, hosts USA, Canada and arch-rival Pakistan for the ninth edition of the marquee tournament, are the former champions, having lifted the title way back in 2007.
Michael Atherton pointed out that the Men in Blue haven't won the trophy after lifting it in the inaugural edition under MS Dhoni's captaincy.
He went on to mention that their T20 WC title win helped revolutionise the T20 cricket in the country but despite the enormous rise of the IPL they still have one World Cup to their name.
“They haven’t won it since that first World Cup back in 2007,” Atherton said. “That’s the great irony. That’s how long It’s also an irony because everybody talks about the IPL and how that has improved. India’s T20 cricket. The irony is the only time they’ve won it was pre-IPL.”
Aiming to end the long and frustrating drought of an ICC trophy, the first batch of Indian players touched down USA on Monday.
