T20 World Cup 2024: The T20 World Cup 2024 will kick off on June 2 and is scheduled to be played in the West Indies and the USA with 20 teams all set to battle it out for the all-important crown.

The ninth edition of the tournament has come a long way since its inaugural in 2007 and will witness an expansion this year as it will have the most number of participating teams.

The tournament will also witness a unique achievement from two players as Rohit Sharma and Shakib Al Hasan will become the players to have played all the T20 World Cup so far.

Rohit currently holds the record for the most matches played in the tournament, with 39. Shakib is close behind, on 36.

Notably, both the players have featured in T20 World Cups 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2021, and 2022.

Rohit will also be leading the Indian team for the second time in the T20 WC, having first led the side in the previous edition in 2022 where the Men in Blue managed to reach the semi-finals.


Most matches played in T20 World Cups

 

Rohit Sharma (India): 39 matches

Rohit has played for India in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2021, and 2022 editions and has scored 963 runs.

 

Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh): 36 matches

Shakib played for Bangladesh in T20 WCs from 2007 to 2022, scoring 742 runs and taking 47 wickets.

 

Tilakaratne Dilshan (Sri Lanka): 35 matches

Dilshan has played in the tournament from 2007 to 2016 and has scored 897 runs and has taken two wickets.

 

Dwayne Bravo (West Indies): 34 matches

Bravo has played from 2007 to 2021 and has scored 530 runs and has taken 27 wickets

 

Shahid Afridi (Pakistan): 34 matches

Afridi has played from 2007 to 2016 and has scored 546 runs and has taken 39 wickets.

 

Shoaib Malik (Pakistan): 34 matches

Malik has played from 2007 to 2021 and has scored 646 runs and has taken three wickets.

 

David Warner (Australia): 34 matches

Warner has played from 2009 to 2022 and has scored 806 runs.

 

MS Dhoni (India): 33 matches

Dhoni has played from 2007 to 2016 and has scored 529 runs.

 

Chris Gayle (West Indies): 33 matches

Gayle has played from 2007 to 2021 and has scored 965 runs and has taken 10 wickets.

 

Mushfiqur Rahim (Bangladesh): 33 matches

Mushfiqur has played from 2007 to 2021 and has scored 402 runs.
