Bangladesh vs Netherlands, T20 World Cup 2024: Bangladesh defeated the Netherlands by 25 runs in match 27 of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 at the Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown in St Vincent on Thursday, June 13.
This was Bangladesh's second win of the tournament and they kept their hopes alive for the Super 8 qualification.
They are placed second in the Group D standings with two wins and four points after the first three matches.
Bangladesh extended their dominance over the Netherlands in the shortest format, beating them in the third successive T20I match and this was their fourth overall win against them in five meetings.
The Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side came up with a brilliant all-round effort and returned to the winning track after losing their previous match against South Africa.
After being put into bat first, Bangladesh were off to a disappointing start as they lost the first two wickets for just 23 runs inside the first three overs.
Shakib Al Hasan returned to form and showed his experience as he recovered things for his side with a much-needed 48-run stand with Tanzid Hasan for the third wicket.
Tanzid was well set for a big score but was dismissed by Paul van Meekeren in the ninth over for 35 runs off 26 balls with the help of five fours and a six.
Shakib kept going and smashed a brilliant half-century. He stitched another crucial partnership of 14 runs with Mahmudullah for the fifth wicket.
Mahmudullah was dismissed for 25 runs in 21 balls by van Meekeren in the 18th over before Jaker Ali played a cameo of 14 runs in just 7 balls with the help of three fours.
Shakib remained unbeaten on 64 off 46 balls on the back of nine fours as Bangladesh posted a challenging total of 159/5 in their 20 overs.
Chasing the target, the Netherlands were on a promising track in terms of run rate despite losing wickets at regular intervals.
They had short but crucial partnerships in between but Bangladesh did well to bounce back in the death overs, giving no chance to the Scott Edwards-led side to score freely.
Sybrand Engelbrecht was the top run-getter for his side, having scored 33 runs in just 22 balls whereas skipper Edwards scored 25 runs.
Rishad Hossain and Taskin Ahmed picked up three and two wickets respectively for Bangladesh whereas Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Mahmudullah took a wicket each as well.
Bangladesh will be up against Nepal in their final Group D match at the same venue on Sunday, June 16.
