T20 World Cup 2024 West Indies Squad: West Indies announced their squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 which will be co-hosted by them alongside the USA and will commence from June 2.

Rovman Powell will be leading the side with stars like Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran and Andre Russell bolstering the 15-member squad.

New pace sensation Shamar Joseph's inclusion came as a huge surprise, having impressed everyone with a heroic performance in Australia earlier this year.

He has an experience of just three T20s under his belt and is yet to make his international debut in the format.

Notably, Hetmyer missed out on the spot in the squad for the T20 World Cup 2022 but has done well since making his return to the side and has been giving impressive performances for Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing IPL 2024.

Star pacer Alzarri Joseph has been named the vice-captain of the two-time champions whereas veteran all-rounder Jason Holder also has been included in the side.

When asked about considering Sunil Narine's surprising comeback for the marquee event, West Indies head coach Daren Sammy said that he himself discussed over the same with the star-spinning all-rounder but since the latter has retired not much could be done.

Sammy also went on to mention that the Cricket West Indies have made a request to the BCCI to release their WC-bound players from IPL as soon as is feasible.

West Indies alongside England are the only side to have won the T20 World Cup twice in their history, clinching the ICC silverware in 2012 and 2016.

West Indies are placed in Group C along with Papua New Guinea (PNG), Uganda, New Zealand and Afghanistan.

Their first two games are scheduled to be played in Providence, Guyana against PNG on June 2 and against Uganda on June 8.

They will face New Zealand in their next match at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad on June 12 before taking the field for their last group game against Afghanistan on June 17 in St Lucia.
