T20 World Cup 2026 Updates: The upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 is all set to be played from February 7 to March 8 in India and Sri Lanka. The first match of the tournament will be played between Pakistan and the Netherlands in Colombo. However, Pakistan's participation is yet to be confirmed, and a final call on the same is expected to be taken on Monday by the PCB and Pakistan's government.

The buildup to the T20 World Cup's 10th edition has been so chaotic so far, with the ICC bringing in Scotland to replace Bangladesh. Talking about the format of the tournament, there haven't been any changes as 20 teams gear up for action in the 55 T20I games, which will be played across eight venues in India and Sri Lanka. A total of five teams each are drawn into four groups. Each team will play four group games before the tournament reaches the Super 8 stage.

Hosts of T20 World Cup 2026

The tournament is being hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The last edition was also played across two locations: the West Indies and the USA. Notably, the venues for the semifinal and the final are not confirmed yet. Pakistan will be playing all their T20 WC matches in Colombo, including the marquee clash against India on February 15.

If Pakistan makes it to the semifinal, then it will also be played in Colombo, or else it will be played in Kolkata, with the other scheduled to take place in Mumbai. A similar scenario is going to take place for the final. If Pakistan makes it to the final, then it will be played in Colombo, or else it will take place at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Scotland's unexpected entry

Scotland couldn't make it to the T20 World Cup 2026 through the qualifiers, but an unexpected scenario ended up forcing the ICC to welcome them. After Bangladesh's exclusion from the tournament, Scotland were the automatic pick as a replacement as per the ICC rankings. This is the first time that Bangladesh won't be playing the T20 World Cup, having featured in all nine editions so far.
