ICC T20 World Cup: Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has sparked controversy yet again, acknowledging India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson's "knock of a lifetime" against the West Indies, but criticising India's overall performance, claiming they are still not playing good cricket.
India's thrilling five-wicket win over West Indies, pushed by Samson's unbeaten 97, secured their spot in the T20 World Cup semi-finals, where they'll face England on Thursday.
Amir, who had earlier predicted that India wouldn't make it to the last four, faced social media backlash after Men in Blue’s thrilling five-wicket win over West Indies at Eden Gardens, securing their spot in the T20 World Cup semi-finals.
Despite the outcome of the crucial encounter, Amir was not impressed, and he refused to back down from his brutal assessment.
"You said they have proved me wrong. Look, where credit is due, it should be given. Sanju Samson played the best innings of his life. I have seen his knocks in the IPL and other matches, but this innings - and that too in a do-or-die game, a knockout - was special," Amir said on Haarna Mana Hai.
Former Pakistan pacer stayed hard and fast in his criticism, arguing that Samson's standout performance couldn't overshadow India's underlying flaws.
"But if I analyse it purely from a cricketing point of view, India are not playing good cricket overall. I am still telling you - just check their fielding. They dropped three to four catches and fumbled in the field. Apart from Bumrah, every other bowler is getting hit. India are playing on the strength of just one bowler," he added.
After clearing the Super Eight hurdle, India will now take on England in the second semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, where a spot in the T20 World Cup final will be at stake.
