IPL 2024: Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has slammed IPL teams like RCB, PBKS and DC. During an interaction with Lallantop, Raina revealed that those teams who used to party hard haven’t won a single IPL trophy. Raina was asked about the IPL parties, which used to happen in the first few years, to which Raina said that CSK never really used to party after their matches, and that's why the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side has won five titles and two Champions League trophies.
Raina further revealed that at one point the tournament was all about glitz and glamour, where cricketers and celebrities used to spend time together. The BCCI then decided to put a stop to these parties after one of the cheerleaders vented out her frustration in a blog and her name was Gabriella Pasqualotto. She slammed the cricketers and said that these cricketers didn’t respect any cheerleaders in these parties.
The BCCI then decided to get rid of the part culture in the tournament and ensured a safe environment for both the dancers and the cheerleaders.
"Chennai never partied. That's why they have been the most successful. 2-3 teams who partied have not won the IPL yet. Laugs (Do you mean RCB?). No, there are a few teams who haven't won, they must have partied hard," Suresh Raina was quoted as saying on Lallantop.
"We (CSK) didn't do it. That's why we have 5 IPL trophies and 2 Champions League trophies. MI also has won 5 trophies," he added.
Raina also spoke about the logic behind CSK not partying is that each player and the staff were quite committed to their matches.
"If you party late into the night, how will you play in the morning? In May-June's heat, how will you play afternoon games if you have partied all night?”, he further said.
He was also asked about MS Dhoni’s decision not to party, to which Raina said that they were quite serious and wanted to do well both for the country and the franchise as well.
"The entire team was particular about not partying late into the night. We are also playing for India, keep in mind. If I don't play well, why will my captain select me? Now, I am free, I have retired. We can party," he further said.
