NZ vs SA ODI Tri-Nation Series: New Zealand's wicket-keeper batter Tom Latham has played a huge role for them in the last few years by performing brilliantly. He has put up match-winning performances but on Monday, he entered an unwanted record list.
Latham registers unwanted records
In the second ODI of the tri-nation series, the Temba Bavuma-led side batted first and posted a target of 304 runs. Matthew Breetzke, in his debut match, scored a brilliant knock of 150 runs. While chasing, the Kiwis had a flying start as they were 237/2. But they lost their third wicket in a jiffy and that's when wicket-keeper bat Tom Latham came into bat.
But his time at the crease was short-lived as he got out on the first ball itself, in Senuran Muthusamy over, as he was trapped ahead of the stumps. The on-field umpire did give the decision of not out, but the Protea bowlers still appealed. In the replay, it was shown, that neither the bat nor the glove was involved as the ball did hit the off-stump. And then the on-field umpire changed his decision and Tom was seen walking back to the dressing room after getting out on a duck.

It was South Africa's second consecutive wicket as they had first taken Daryl Mitchell's wicket on the previous ball. But this didn't affect New Zealand's chase much as due to Kane Willimason's match-winning knock of 133 runs and Devon Conway's knock of 97 runs helped them chase the target of 305 runs with eight balls and six wickets remaining.
Besides this, Tom Latham getting dismissed for a golden duck against South Africa, was one of the talking points. He also got out on a duck against Sri Lanka and then against Pakistan, he got out for a duck as well.
He has now been dismissed for three consecutive ducks and has joined an unwanted record list, where players had scored the most ducks in this format.
Latham is the joint second highest after getting dismissed on three ducks. He also has players like Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, and team India T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav. He is just one duck short of topping the list.
