Virat Kohli's 36th Birthday: Virat Kohli is celebrating his birthday as he turns 36 on Tuesday, November 5.

Fans and Kohli's teammates along with former cricketers came up with heartfelt wishes for the former Indian captain on his special day.

Kohli was born in 1988 in Delhi into a Punjabi Hindu family and developed an interest in cricket from a very young age.

He came into the limelight after leading India to the U-19 World Cup title victory in 2008 in Malaysia. He went on to make his India debut later that year.

Amid all the ups and downs, Kohli went on to become one of the great players in modern cricket and achieved immense success across formats.

He was a part of the Indian teams that lifted the ODI World Cup trophy in 2011 at home and the ICC Champions Trophy title in 2013 in England.

Having been appointed the Test captaincy in 2014, Kohli became the all-format skipper in 2017, after he had taken over the reign of MS Dhoni.

Under Kohli's captaincy, the Indian team achieved immense success, especially in Test cricket as the longest format became his favourite due to the challenges it gives throughout the five days.

Kohli developed a remarkable bowling attack on the back of which he achieved monumental Test success as captain away from home, winning India's first-ever Test series in Australia and several crucial wins overseas.

After Rohit Sharma took over the leadership role across formats, Kohli continued to contribute as a player and came up with a special performance in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Kohli played a match-winning knock in the final against South Africa as India ended their long wait for an ICC trophy.

As Virat Kohli celebrates his 36th birthday, let's take a look back at the star batter's historic knock in the T20 World Cup 2024 final

India looked in great form throughout the tournament and headed into the final on the back of wins in every match except the fixture against Canada which was abandoned due to rain.

The only concern ahead of the summit clash remained Virat Kohli's form in the tournament as he had scored just 75 runs in six matches.

Having been India's one of the most consistent batter in the tournament's history, Kohli was expected to fire but he couldn't replicate his brilliance which ended up being his last T20 WC tournament.

After opting to bat first in the final, India had a disappointing start and were reduced to 34/3 in the fifth over before Kohli was joined by Axar Patel in the middle.

Notably, Kohli had been looking for a different approach with the bat in the earlier matches of the tournament and looked for quick runs while attempting the attacking shots.

However, it was a stage set for Kohli to be himself and he unleashed one of the memorable knocks of his carer in the shortest format.

Kohli went on to score his first fifty of the tournament and ended up playing an incredible knock of 76 runs in 59 balls on the back of six fours and two sixes.

He first stitched a crucial partnership of 72 runs with Axar for the fourth wicket before adding 57 runs more with Shivam Dube.

Kohli's contribution helped India post a challenging total of 176/6 in their 20 overs.

A remarkable bowling effort saw India restrict South Africa to 169/8 to clinch a thrilling victory in one of the most emphatic ways.

Soon after winning his third ICC trophy, Kohli along with skipper Rohit and star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja announced his retirement from the T20I cricket.
