‘Virat Could Also Retire At Lord’s’: Ex-Pak Star's Bold Prediction Amid Rohit Sharma's Retirement Speculation Goes Viral

Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali believes Virat Kohli could announce his retirement from international cricket after the third ODI against England at Lord’s, just as he retired from Test cricket a few days after Rohit Sharma.

There has been growing speculation over Rohit’s ODI future ahead of the series-deciding match at Lord’s. Several reports have claimed that the India captain is considering his future in the 50-over format.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Basit said Rohit should continue playing as long as he is performing and deserves his place in the team. He also said that judging Rohit only on his recent performances or on the preferences of head coach Gautam Gambhir would be unfair.

“If he continues to perform, he should keep playing. Right now, if you want to judge him solely based on his performances in the two matches in England or on Gautam Gambhir’s likes and dislikes, then you should also keep Virat Kohli in mind.”

Why Rohit's retirement speculations might influence Kohli’s plans?

Basit then suggested that the pressure surrounding Rohit’s future could also influence Kohli’s plans.

“If today it’s Rohit’s turn, then next time it could be Virat’s. Given the way Virat retired from Tests, there is a possibility that both of them could announce their retirements at Lord’s.”

He also warned against putting unnecessary pressure on senior players, saying cricket fans still want to watch Kohli represent India.

“If too much pressure is applied, I feel such a decision could end up being made, which would be a huge mistake, because the cricketing world still wants to watch Virat play.”

Despite his calm and relaxed personality, Rohit has built a reputation as one of the strongest competitors in world cricket. If he decides to continue playing, he may have to fight for his place.

Who will be Rohit's successor in ODIs?

Reports suggest that the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee is keen to give Yashasvi Jaiswal an extended run in India’s ODI team. The move is also believed to have the backing of the team management, including head coach Gautam Gambhir.
