Wasim Akram's Statue: A huge life-sized statue of legendary Wasim Akram was unveiled in April at Hyderabad's Niaz Stadium in Pakistan as a mark of respect to his contribution to Cricket. However, the statue has attracted a lot of memes of jokes on social media attention after a handle on X shared its photo, with fans expressing ridicule over its appearance.
Notably, the statue displays Wasim in Pakistan's iconic 1999 World Cup jersey where they reached the final eventually losing the final to Australia. The statue looks like capturing his signature slingy bowling action which was no less than nostalgic for fans. However, the facial features appeared distorted, with his concentrated expression appearing more like a frown and his hair making him look older than intended.

After retiring from playing, Akram transitioned into coaching roles. Notably, he served as a coach for the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) from 2010 to 2016.
During a recent interaction with VU Sports, Akram recounted a memorable incident from the IPL 2012 season. He narrated how Bollywood superstar and KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan, in a remarkable gesture, arranged a Boeing aircraft for the entire team to provide the players with much-needed rest before a crucial knockout match. This anecdote highlights the kind of support and camaraderie that existed within the KKR setup during Akram's tenure.
"I think this happened during the 2012 IPL season. Our knockout match was in Kolkata, and I remember we were going to arrive via, via some place. Shah Rukh Khan was there, so I asked him, 'Khan saab, ek request hai (Mr Khan, I have a request)'. I said, 'Ladke bade thak jayenge, hum kal pahunchenge, parso match hai. Toh agar ek private plane (The team will get extremely tired. We'll reach tomorrow, and the match is the day after. If a private plane could be arranged)...'" said Akram.
"He said, 'Thak jayenge ladke? Koi problem nahi (They'll get tired you say, no problem)'. Within one hour, pura Boeing jahaaz khada tha for the whole team," Akram added.
