Following the former opener's appointment as India head coach, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) co-owner and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan shared a heartwarming hug with departing team mentor Gautam Gambhir warmly at the Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant wedding in Mumbai.
This year, Gambhir returned to the team and orchestrated KKR's Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 title victory. The former opener would thereafter resign from his role as team mentor in order to accept the India position.
A few months ago, Shah Rukh Khan showered Gambhir with plaudits for leading the team to an unprecedented triumph in the IPL 2024 final, as they overcame Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Chennai. To show his appreciation for Gambhir's role in the team's win, the Bollywood superstar planted a kiss on his forehead.
A viral video showed SRK hugging the former India skipper before they had a little conversation.

India's series against Sri Lanka will mark the first assignment of the newly appointed head coach Gambhir. The former opener succeeded Rahul Dravid, whose tenure ended after India's successful ICC T20 World Cup campaign.
Recently Gambhir has stated that he believes players who are "good enough" should play all three formats, so his selection process won't be focused on a certain format.
"I'm a very strong believer in one thing, that if you're good, you should be playing all the three formats. I've never been a big believer in injury management, you get injured, you go get recovered. As simple as it gets. When you're playing international cricket and you're good enough, you ask any of the top players, if they want to play all the three formats. They don't want to stay, and they don't want to be labelled as red-ball bowlers or white-ball bowlers. Injuries are part of sportsman's life," Gambhir told Star Sports.
