A local cricket tournament in Beruwala ended in tragedy after a 46-year-old player collapsed while batting and later died. The cricketer, identified as Zulfikar, was at the crease when he suddenly fell to the ground during his innings. Players from both teams and the umpires rushed to help him before the tournament’s medical staff reached the spot. He was taken to the Beruwala Regional Hospital for emergency treatment, but doctors declared him dead.

According to local reports, the suspected cause of death was a heart attack, though there has been no official confirmation.

The incident took place during a cricket carnival organised by the old boys’ association of a well-known Muslim school in the China Fort area of Beruwala. The match was being streamed live, and the shocking moment was captured on the broadcast.

Zulfikar had scored six runs from three balls before collapsing. The scoreboard showed 37/5 in 3.4 overs when play was stopped. The clip of the incident went viral on social media; here is the video:

Following the incident, tournament organisers suspended the competition indefinitely. Witnesses at the ground said everyone nearby immediately tried to help before arrangements were made to rush him to hospital. Despite their efforts, he could not be saved.
