‘We Are Always Learning, Trying To Get Better’: Arshdeep Singh After Match-Winning Spell Against USA

IND vs USA, 2024 T20 World Cup: India’s star bowler Arshdeep Singh revealed that playing against Pakistan bowlers helped him become a confident batter. He played a key role in their match against arch-nemesis Pakistan where he scored nine runs off 13 balls, in which he also hit a four and helped his team post a respectable target of 120 runs on a tricky pitch in New York.  
 
His knock became quite important for the Rohit Sharma-led side as that helped them defeat Pakistan by six runs. Arshdeep admitted that he became quite confident after batting against bowlers like Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, Mohammed Amir, and Naseem Shah.  
 
He also revealed that he has been taking guidance from their batting coach Vikram Rathour. Arshdeep spoke about his batting skills post India’s win against the USA at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.  
 
“We are always learning, always trying to get better at all the skills, be it bowling, batting, or fielding, because you never know when the team needs those runs. It can be two runs, four runs, anything. So, you just must give your best. And I am trying to work as hard as possible with Vikram Bhai regarding my batting as well,” Arshdeep told reporters in the post-match press conference.  
 
Went in after asking Rohit Sharma  
 
Arshdeep, who has scored just 43 runs in this format at an average of 69, revealed that he was so sure of his batting that he confirmed from skipper Rohit Sharma as to whether he could bat before Jasprit Bumrah, who has played gritty knocks for the team before.  
 
“And an instance from the last game, Jassi Bhai was supposed to go before me, but I just went in after asking Rohit. They were surprised by it, but now I told them I will go up regardless of whatever you say. I will go at nine because I faced the quickest bowlers in the last game. So yeah, that's the plan now. I am very confident about my batting. And be it fielding or bowling, you just try to keep getting better,” he added.  
 
He was the pick amongst the bowlers in their match against the USA, where he has also adjudged the Man of the Match award. He registered figures of 4-0-9-4 and helped his team reduce the USA to 110/8. It was Suryakumar Yadav, who scored an unbeaten knock of 50 runs and helped the team win the match with 10 balls remaining.
