In a heartwarming moment that touched the cricketing world, Afghan spinner Mujeeb ur Rahman revealed that the young fan he consoled after Afghanistan's victory over England at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi was not from Afghanistan, as many initially believed. Instead, it was a young Indian boy who was overwhelmed with joy for Afghanistan's win.

Afghanistan displayed a well-rounded performance as they dismissed England for 215 runs in 40.3 overs while chasing a target of 285. This victory marked only their second win in the World Cup, with their previous triumph occurring eight years ago during the 2015 edition in Australia when they defeated Scotland.

The emotional scene, captured in a viral video, showed Mujeeb comforting the tearful young fan.

"It's not an Afghan boy; it's one young Indian boy so happy for our win," Mujeeb clarified on X (formerly twitter) in response to the widespread assumption that the boy was Afghan.

He also extended his thanks to the fans for their overwhelming love and support, looking forward to their continued support in the future.

"It was an absolute pleasure meeting this little guy from Delhi last night. Cricket is not just a game; it's an emotion," Mujeeb said, expressing his gratitude for the support the team received.

This touching moment held special significance for the Afghan cricket team, as their country had recently experienced devastating earthquakes. Mujeeb ur Rahman, who was named the Player of the Match, dedicated his award to the people of Afghanistan who had been affected by the earthquakes.

The Afghan cricket team's journey in the Cricket World Cup 2023 continues as they prepare to face New Zealand at Chepauk on Wednesday.
