Kemar Roach made a strong impact early on, putting Bangladesh on the back foot on the truncated first day of the Kingston Test. However, the West Indies' struggles with catching let the visitors off the hook, denying the home team several potential wickets. Despite Roach's impressive start, Bangladesh managed to steady themselves, finishing the day on 69 for 2.
Shadman Islam and Shahadat Hossain remained unbeaten on 50 and 12, respectively, as the Bangladesh batsmen worked to rebuild their innings. The West Indies' fielding woes were a significant factor in Bangladesh's relatively stable position at the end of the day.

Shadman Islam's unbeaten fifty offered a lot of crucial points for Bangladesh, as the team overcame the risky 10 for 2 after the first seven overs.
The first half day has largely been set off by the soggy outfield, which was a result of heavy rain in Jamaica in recent weeks. The game was eventually initiated after a protracted delay of over five hours from the original starting time. Despite it, the players coped brilliantly with the situation.
Mominul Haque's innings did not last long enough since he was out for a duck due to Kemar Roach's throw. The Windies fast bowler stuck a second blow in the next over, as well. The way Mominul got out was exactly the same as that of Mahmudul as he also had a delivery that cut away from him, thus, putting Bangladesh in a miserable state of 10 for 2.
As Bangladesh appears to be on their way to another meltdown with the bat, Shadman Islam and Shahadat Hossain came back with a spectacular performance. The pair fought it out and held each other's hands, hence, they were still there in the gully though the innings ended as they were still not dismissed.
The West India side will probably take back their missing opportunities as they surprisingly missed three catches during the first 20 overs.
Jayden Seales was the West Indies' best bowler with an outstanding spell of 7-5-2-0. He was consistent with his maiden overs as he bowled three jittery overs in the middle of five overs a day that were maiden attempts.
Shadman Islam capitalized on any loose deliveries, taking advantage of the width offered by the West Indies bowlers. He struck two impressive boundaries, one each off Kemar Roach and Greaves, showcasing his ability to punish wayward bowling.
As Shadman continued to build momentum, he unleashed a powerful shot down the ground, smashing a six off Kavem Hodge.
