West Indies cricket team vs England cricket team 5th T20I:
The fifth and final T20I match between West Indies and England was played at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia on Sunday, November 17.
The match was washed out due to rain after only five overs were bowled in West Indies' first innings. England won the five-match T20I series 3-1.
After being put into bat first, West Indies scored 44 runs without the loss of any wicket in five overs before rain interrupted play, and no further play was possible.
Evin Lewis scored 29 runs in 20 balls on the back of three fours and two sixes whereas Shai Hope remained unbeaten on three fours.
West Indies headed into the game on the back of a five-wicket win in the last game which proved to be their only consolation win.
England won the first three matches convincingly to seal the series after losing the ODI series 2-1.
Saqib Mahmood was adjudged as the Player of the Series as he ended up taking nine wickets in four matches at an average of 10.56.
"As a group, we spoke beforehand to have that mindset of looking to take wickets the whole time. Coming in with plans and being able to back that up and get the rewards have been nice. From my side, it's obviously nice to work my way back into the England team. And to perform in this series, I am really happy. One thing that I noticed being here previously is the crosswinds at most grounds," Mahmood said at the post-match presentation.
This was the first full assignment for skipper Jos Buttler afer he made a comeback into the England team. He missed a few amount of action due to injury and looked promising with the bat.
He was the fourth-highest run-getter in the T20I series, scoring 83 runs in four innings at an average of 31.25.
"We are delighted. We've had a few close calls out here as well, a really good series against the West Indies. Thought we played some brilliant cricket early on and we were delighted with the win. We started all the games well, those powerplay wickets, Player of the Series Saqib Mahmood just set the tone in all those games which was great and a lot of different guys chipping in, really pleased for everybody," said England captain Jos Buttler.
