India scripted history in Barbados as they maintained an unbeaten streak to clinch the title in the T20 World Cup 2024.

The Men in Blue ended an 11-year-old long wait for an ICC trophy and ended up winning their second T20 World Cup title.

Amid all the celebrations, BCCI secretary Jay Shah expressed his wish for the Men in Blue to continue their dominance in the upcoming major tournaments across formats.

Shah has set an ambitious goal to win the World Test Championship and ICC Champions Trophy on the back of the presence of senior players in the side.

"The way this team is progressing, our target is to win the World Test Championship final and Champions Trophy.

There will be a similar squad playing there. The seniors will be there," Shah was quoted by PTI as saying.

His announcement indirectly confirmed the availability of veteran players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the upcoming Champions Trophy.

Notably, Kohli and Rohit announced their retirement from the T20I format after India's T20 WC victory but will continue to play ODI and Test formats.

Ravindra Jadeja too ended his T20I career on a high and will also most likely be available for the Champions Trophy which is scheduled to be played in Pakistan next year.

"It was the same captain last year and here in Barbados," Shah said. "We won all games except the final in 2023 as Australia played better. This time we worked even harder and played better to win the title. If you look at other teams, experience counts. From Rohit to Virat, all excelled. Experience makes a lot of difference, in World Cups, you can't experiment much also. A good player knows when to say goodbye to the game, we saw that yesterday. You look at Rohit's strike rate, it is better than a lot of young players."

India never won an ICC title since the Champions Trophy win in 2013 and ended up losing multiple times in the semi-finals and finals.

The Men in Blue lost the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup finals last year, both against Rohit Sharma's captaincy.

"I would want India to win all the titles," Shah said. "We have the biggest bench strength, and only three players from this team are going to Zimbabwe. We can field three times if needed."

On being asked about the transition phase in the Indian team post the retirement of Rohit, Kohli and Jadeja, Jay Shah said: "Transition has already happened with three greats retiring."

A second-string side under Shubman Gill's captaincy will be playing an away T20I series against Zimbabwe, starting from July 6.
