Women's T20 World Cup 2024: The highly-awaited 2024 Women's T20 World Cup is all set to begin on October 3 in the UAE, where Bangladesh will lock horns with debutants Scotland in the tournament opener. About 10 teams will be participating in the ninth season of the Women's T20 World Cup and all the teams have been put into two groups- Group A and Group B. Around 23 matches would be held for the next 18 days and the summit clash would be held on October 20 and that's when the winner of this mega-event would be declared. Teams like Australia, India, and England are considered as the favorites but all the other teams would aim to create an impact and fight to lift the coveted trophy.

The Alyssa Healy-led side would be entering the tournament as the reigning champions. They will aim to win their fourth consecutive Women's T20 World Cup title, after winning in the last three consecutive editions. At the same time, the Women in Blue are looking to end their ICC title drought and will aim to win their maiden title. Sri Lanka is entering this mega-event riding high on confidence after winning the Women's Asia Cup earlier this year and Bangladesh will try to create an impact as the hosts of the tournament. At the same time, England will try to break the semifinal jinx whereas the 2023 finalist South Africa will eye lifting the trophy this time.

What is considered a historic move, the ICC has revealed that the Women's T20 World Cup would receive the same prize money as that of the men's. It is the first time in the history of this sport that both men's and women's editions would be getting the same prize money. Due to this decision, the champions of this year's edition will be paid USD 2.34 million and that is a huge 134% rise compared to USD 1 million being given to the Meg Lanning-led side last year in South Africa. This decision will help to create a new platform for gender equality in this sport and also encourage other sporting organizations to do the same.
