Women's World Cup 2025: Drizzle interrupted the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 opener between India and Sri Lanka in Guwahati, forcing the players to leave the field and temporarily halting play.

The match has been reduced to 48 overs per side, with play scheduled to resume at 5 pm.

Sri Lanka's bowlers maintained a tight leash on the game, exerting significant control over the proceedings before the 10-over break.

The Lankans struck early, with Udeshika Prabodani dealing a significant blow to India's innings by removing key opener Smriti Mandhana.

India opener Mandhana attempted an assertive off-side attempt early in the powerplay but was caught at deep cover after a spectacular catch by Vishmi Gunaratne.

Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu won the toss and opted to bowl first against Harmanpreet Kaur's Indian side in the tournament opener at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati.

"We are bowling first. I am pretty confident about my bowling unit so we are bowling first. It is a good batting track but there could be some dew later on. We are going with seven batters. The prep has been good. Next five games we are playing in Sri Lanka, I hope we can bring out our best in the comp," Athapaththu said at the time of the toss.
