The ODI World Cup is set to begin on October 5th with India set to host the marquee event solely for the very first time, having co-hosted it in 2011.

The competition will take place in ten Indian cities, including Ahmedabad, Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Dharamsala, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata.

Talking about the national capital Delhi, the World Cup matches will take place at Arun Jaitely Stadium. Originally established in 1883 as the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium and named after the nearby Kotla fort, it is the second oldest active international cricket stadium in India, after Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

The stadium formerly had the reputation of producing slow pitches but after a renovation of the square which specially took place for the tournament, the pace has picked up with totals to match.

Pitch info

The pitch at the Kotla Stadium is known to have generally produced the traditional slow surfaces for the ODI matches over the years. Teams batting second have done marginally better, with the small boundaries and fast outfield helping the run-making in the second innings.

Capacity: The stadium has a capacity of 41,842 spectators.

Key Stats: India have played 21 ODIs at this Stadium from 1982 to 2022, winning 13 and losing 7. One match was a no result. Sachin Tendulkar broke Sunil Gavaskar’s record for most Test centuries when he brought up his 35th ton in a 2005 match against Sri Lanka.

In the 25 ODI matches played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, the team batting first has won 12 matches while the team batting second has emerged victorious on 13 occasions.
