RCB vs GG WPL 2025: Gujarat Giants skipper Ash Gardner scripted history on Friday even though her team ended up on the losing side in the WPL clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru by six wickets. She had taken Smriti Mandhana's wicket for the ninth time in WT20Is and that was the most by any bowler she also surpassed Nat Sciver Brunt's record of dismissing the RCB skipper eight times.

While chasing a mammoth target of 202 runs in Vadodara, Gardner got Mandhana out by LBW and then she also took Danni-Wyatt Hodge's wicket. At the same time, Gardner had dismissed Smriti Mandhana 15 times.

During the post-match presentation, Smriti was enquired as to whether she would like to take Gardner out for dinner as she took her wicket once again. The RCB captain made a cheeky captain and said, “I think I have to take her for runs, I think it is time now (laughs).”

Praises for Richa, Perry

Smriti Mandhana was ecstatic after her team chased down the record-breaking successful run chase in the tournament's history. Ellyse Perry had scored a match-winning knock of 56 runs and had set the platform for this chase and Richa Ghosh scored 64 runs off 27 balls and took the team across the line. Kanika Ahuja, who couldn't play last year gave Richa assistance by scoring a quickfire knock of 30 runs.

“I am really happy that we were on the winning side. The way Richa and Pez (Perry) batted, was amazing to watch. It's brilliant to watch, they have been doing that in the nets. Happy that things clicked,” Smriti added.

“After the first innings, we knew it would be tough to bowl, so we always thought we were in the game. We lost the top three wicket-takers of last year, but luckily we had good options (coming in),” she concluded.

The Smriti Mandhana-led side will lock horns with Delhi Capitals on Monday in their next match at the same venue.
