Russian President Vladimir Putin is on a two-day visit to India and will be meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Russian President’s two-day visit will start on Thursday, December 4. As a result, tight security has been put in place across Delhi, and several traffic diversions will be put in place throughout the city. The Delhi Metro services may also be affected. 

According to a report, cited by Navbharat Times, Putin’s plane is expected to land at Palam Airport around 6 pm. He will then head straight to the ITC Maurya Hotel on Sardar Marg in Chanakyapuri. In the evening, Prime Minister Modi will host a private dinner for him at his residence.

Delhi Traffic Advisory: Affected Routes

Several diversions will be put in place across the city during the visit of the Russian President’s visit:

  • Morning diversions: Around Rajghat, Shanti Van, Rajaram Kohli Marg, Ring Road, Delhi Gate, ITO, Tilak Marg, and India Gate.

  • Afternoon diversions: Near Mathura Road, Bhairo Road, India Gate, Mandi House, and ITO.

Some metro stations will also have temporary entry and exit restrictions. The police have advised commuters to follow the traffic advisories and use alternative routes. Traffic may also be affected on NH-S, Dhaula Kuan, and the Delhi Cantt area between the airport and the hotel.

Security Arrangements For President Putin

Owing to the visit of the Russian President, the Delhi Police have implemented strict measures to ensure his safety. SWAT teams, anti-terror squads, and QRT units will be deployed along his travel routes, while drones will monitor key locations. 

More than 50 officers from Russia’s advanced security team will also be deployed in the city. Authorities have advised the people ot avoid central Delhi where both heads of state will be present, especially during the morning and afternoon hours. Officials have assured that while the capital will remain on high alert throughout the two-day visit, all steps are being taken to minimise inconvenience for the public.
