A criminal with a history of involvement in cases of murder, dacoity, and snatching was injured and subsequently arrested following an encounter with the police in the Bawana area late on Thursday night. The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Narela Industrial Area police station in the Outer North district.

According to Hareshwar V Swamy, Deputy Commissioner of Police for the Outer North district, the operation began after Special Staff Inspector Anand Kumar Jha received specific intelligence about an armed criminal on a black scooter planning to commit a crime.

Acting on the tip-off, the Special Staff team launched a search and spotted a suspect matching the description in the G Block of Bawana. When the police team attempted to intercept him, the individual opened fire, firing two rounds at the officers.

In a retaliatory act of self-defence, the police team fired three rounds, one of which struck the criminal in his right leg, causing him to fall.

The injured accused was immediately arrested and has been identified as Aftab Alam alias Atti, a resident of JJ Colony, Bawana. He was admitted to a hospital for medical treatment. Police have recovered a pistol, cartridges, and the scooter used by him.

Preliminary interrogation has revealed that Aftab Alam is a hardened criminal with prior involvement in numerous serious crimes. The police are continuing their investigation and taking further legal action.
