A video circulating online has sparked outrage after showing a stray dog roaming freely and urinating inside Guru Tegh Bahadur (GTB) Hospital in Delhi’s Shahdara area, raising serious concerns over hygiene and alleged negligence at the government-run facility.
The footage shows stray dog wandering across hospital grounds, including inside buildings, relieving itself near patients and their attendants, some of whom are seated or lying on the floor. At several points, the dog moves dangerously close to people with no apparent restrictions in place.
Sharing the clip, the user commented, “The Condition of Delhi's Govt's GTB Hospital under BJP.” The clip quickly went viral on social media, prompting strong reactions from users, many of whom expressed alarm over patient safety, cleanliness, and the general state of government hospitals.

One user commented, “Bechare marij aur unke gharwale kaise jameen pr janvaro ki tarah dale hai. SC sarkari hospitals me logo ke saath ho rahe is vyavhaar ka sangyan le, suo moto use kare. Kutto ka gana to sab ga rahe hai, insaano ki durdasha pr bhi bolo.”
Another highlighted systemic concerns, writing, “The bigger question is why are the people made to sit on the floors? And why no barricading or doors that only humans can enter from? Dogs don’t enter private hospitals. Andbhakts will blame everything on the dogs n get them crucified instead of solving the real problem.”
According to an NDTV report, the video also shows three dogs standing next to a food trolley while two hospital employees stand nearby, making no attempt to remove them.
Responding to the criticism, Dr Vinod Kumar, Medical Director of GTB Hospital, said the administration has repeatedly approached the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), requesting the removal of stray dogs from hospital premises.
Addressing claims that some staff had dismissed the dogs as harmless, Kumar stated, “Listen, 20,000 people come here daily. This requires a public awareness program. You should show in the media that the public shouldn't feed them there. 200 guards cannot stop everyone... We cannot lock the doors.”
The incident has once again drawn attention to long-standing problems at government hospitals, including overcrowding, sanitation issues, and inadequate animal control measures.
