A thick blanket of dense fog and toxic air engulfed the national capital on Tuesday morning, severely reducing visibility in key areas including Dhaula Kuan, the Dwarka Expressway and Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA). The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for dense fog, warning of potential travel disruptions over the next few days.
Flight Operations And Advisory
Visibility dropped to near zero in the early hours, causing delays and cancellations for several flights. Major airlines, including IndiGo and Air India, issued advisories to passengers regarding the disruptions.
Current Status: At 7:00 am, Indira Gandhi International Airport issued a passenger advisory stating that flight operations have normalised as visibility improved.
Passenger Support: The airport administration assured that officials are stationed at terminals to assist travellers affected by earlier delays.

Air Quality Crisis
Compounding the weather challenges, Delhi's air quality remains critical.
AQI Level: The Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 384, placing it in the 'very poor' category.
Health Warning: Authorities have advised residents to limit outdoor exposure to minimize health risks associated with the toxic air.
Weather Forecast: Rain Expected On New Year
According to the IMD forecast:
Fog: Dense fog is expected to persist in the mornings for the coming days, gradually clearing as the day progresses.
Temperature: Minimum temperatures are expected to remain normal. However, the maximum temperature is likely to be significantly higher on 31 December.
Rain Prediction: The sky will remain partly cloudy for the next four days. The IMD has predicted a possibility of very light to light rain on January 1, 2026, which may impact New Year celebrations.
