Difference Between Delhi and New Delhi: Delhi and New Delhi are at times the topic of confusion for many. But to your surprise, both hold different identities and roles. Delhi is a larger metropolitan city, also officially regarded as the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi. Delhi is a union territory with a total of 11 districts, including Old Delhi, New Delhi, urban, suburban, and rural areas. Delhi has a rich history, which dates back several thousand years. Delhi has witnessed ancient times and medieval civilisations. Delhi is a vibe, which is a cultural hub and historically significant.
Additionally, Delhi is known for historic attractions like the Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Jama Masjid, the Chandni Chowk and many more monuments and historically impactful places. The place is also known for its diverse population of around 34.7 million people, according to the World Population Review report. Other than being a tourist spot and the economic hub of India, Delhi is also a major political and commercial region with an elected government and a Lieutenant Governor.

On the other hand, New Delhi is a smaller area within Delhi, covering about 42.7 square kilometres, according to the Britannica. New Delhi was built in the early 20th century by the British. New Delhi was the place which was built as the capital of British India, and now serves as the official National Capital of independent India.
