The Christmas Capital of the World is Strasbourg in France. It is popular due to its age-old and world-famous markets, along with the vibrant spirit of the Christmas festivities it offers. Strasbourg is situated in the Alsace of eastern France and is often renowned as the title of ‘Capital of Christmas,’ or in French, Capitale de Noël. The place’s reputation is also due to tourism and media coverage that promote Strasbourg as the ‘IT’ destination for Christmas.
The iconic Christmas market in Strasbourg, known as the Christkindelsmärchen, is one of the main reasons for this title. The market was established in 1570, and it is also one of the oldest in Europe. Today, hundreds of stalls can be found in the city, located in various squares. From these markets, you can buy handicrafts, ornaments, and local delicacies to preserve centuries-old traditions.
