Central Universities Amendment Bill 2023: The Central Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2023 was approved by the Lok Sabha on Thursday. The creation of the new, "Proposed Central Tribal University in Telangana," is made possible by the passing of the important measure. According to news agency ANI, the bill was passed following Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's response to the discussion on Thursday. According to a LiveLaw report, the Union Minister of State (MoS) for Education Subhas Sarkar moved the bill for additional consideration and passage.

Notably, the Central Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2023, opens the door for the recently proposed "Sammakka Sarakka Central Tribal University" to be established in Telangana, with state-wide territorial jurisdiction. The goal of Telangana's soon-to-be tribal university is to act as a centre for superior research and higher education in the area, particularly for the tribal community.

By offering facilities for instruction and research in tribal art, culture, and customs as well as technological improvement, the new Central Tribal University will serve the nation's tribal population and promote advanced knowledge systems within its scope of high-quality higher education and research.

Furthermore, the establishment of a Central Tribal University in Telangana is required by the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, which established a distinct Telangana state from the former Andhra Pradesh.

The foundation of a new "Central Tribal University" in the "Mulug" district of Telangana, named after the tribal deities "Sammakka and Sarakka," who are venerated in Telangana, was announced by Prime Minister Modi earlier this year in October while speaking at a public rally in Mahbubnagar, Telangana. Additionally, PM Modi declared that Telangana will see the establishment of a new university for Rs 900 crore.

The Union cabinet approved a modification to the Central Universities Act, 2009 to allow for the establishment of the recently announced Sammakka Sarakka Central Tribal University in Telangana, following the PM's announcement of the new tribal university.
