Delhi School Holidays 2024: Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has declared a public holiday on November 7, 2024, in celebration of Chhath Puja. She announced the news on her official X (formerly Twitter) account. Due to the holiday, all government and private schools, along with colleges, will remain closed across Delhi.
The announcement followed a request from Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, who wrote to the Chief Minister, urging her to declare a holiday on November 7. Chhath is an important Hindu festival, primarily celebrated in Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Making the announcement on X, Atishi wrote, "I am happy to inform you that the Delhi government has decided to declare a holiday on November 7 for the festival of Chhath, so that all our brothers and sisters of Purvanchal can celebrate the festival with pomp and show." She also shared her signed order regarding the decision.

"Chhath Puja is an important festival for the people of NCT of Delhi. Accordingly, the Government of NCT of Delhi has decided to declare November 7, 2024, as a public holiday on account of 'Chhat Puja," the order reads.

In Bihar, schools will remain closed from November 6 to 8 for Chhath Puja and will reopen on November 11.
Chhath Puja is a festival dedicated to the worship of the sun god, celebrated with a rigorous four-day routine. The rituals include fasting, offering prayers to the rising and setting sun, holy bathing, and meditating while standing in water.
