Delhi Schools News: The government of Delhi has directed all the schools to immediately stop outdoor activities and sports activities for students as the air quality has deteriorated and falls under the severe category in the national capital. This decision follows a directive from the SC, which raised strong concerns about children being exposed to hazardous pollution and AQI.
This decision comes after a day when the Supreme Court asked the Commission for Air Quality Management to consider releasing directions to Delhi schools to immediately suspend outdoor activities scheduled in November and December.
CAQM Issues Advisory Amid Rising Health Concerns:
According to the official advisory released by the CAQM—Delhi-NCR’s air pollution monitoring and regulatory body has announced that all the sports and outdoor competitions must be postponed till the further notice to protect children from hazardous air. The commission also mentioned that the current pollution levels pose hazardous health risks.
This particular advisory by the CAQM isn’t limited to schools only but it also applies to universities, colleges, and recognised sports associations across Delhi-NCR region.
Delhi's air quality has improved slightly on Friday morning, with the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) at 370 at 8:00 am, according to the data released by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) but now it has fallen under the severe category which is extremely risky for students and children.
Air Quality Dips to Severe Levels:
This week, pollution levels and the Air Quality Index, AQI in the national capital have been consistently swinging between the ‘very poor’ and ‘severe’ categories which is raising concerns for everybody’s health. On Friday, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 373 which is equal to inhaling 10 to 11 cigarettes a day.
How To Check School Updates:
1. Monitor Local News: Holiday decisions or outdoor activities suspension details, especially those related to weather (rain, cold waves, air quality), are typically made at the district or school level.
2. Check Official Sources: Refer to official announcements from the District Magistrate, Collector, or the school administration's official website for such updates.
3. Contact School Authorities: The most reliable source for a specific school's status in terms of school holiday, hybrid classes or outdoor activities suspended is direct communication with school authorities.
