Ram Navami marks the birth of Lord Rama and is celebrated with great enthusiasm worldwide, while Durga Ashtami is dedicated to Goddess Durga and carries significant religious importance. This holiday decision is intended to enable students, teachers, and staff to engage in religious and cultural celebrations with their families.
On April 17, 2024, the state governments of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Delhi announced school closures. Meanwhile, the Haryana government has instructed all schools to open two hours later than usual on April 16, 2024. This adjusted timing applies to both students and teachers.

Uttar Pradesh
Following the Uttar Pradesh government's directive, all schools in the state will remain closed on April 17, 2024, in observance of Ram Navami.
Bihar
A special closure has been announced by the government for Ram Navami on April 17, 2024, to ensure the active participation of students and teachers in the religious festivities.
Delhi
According to the academic calendar issued by the Delhi Directorate of Education (DOE), all government and government-aided schools will observe a closure on April 17, 2024, in observance of Ram Navami.
Haryana
Though schools in Haryana will not be fully closed, they will commence classes with a two-hour delay on April 16th, facilitating family participation in Durga Ashtami observances. As per an official spokesperson, schools in Haryana will open at 10 am and conclude at 2:30 pm. This adjusted timetable is applicable to both students and teachers, as per the media reports.
