Haridwar School Holiday: As the annual Shravan Kanwar Yatra is set to commence, the district administration of Haridwar is taking proactive measures to prevent potential issues arising from the massive influx of pilgrims. To ensure the pilgrimage proceeds smoothly and safely, and to avoid any congregation of school students with the large number of Kanwariyas, all educational institutions, including schools and Anganwadi centers, will be closed.
This holiday period for schools and Anganwadi facilities in Haridwar will span from July 14 to July 23, 2025. This decision reflects the district government's commitment to prioritizing public safety and facilitating the spiritual journey of millions of devotees who converge on Haridwar during this significant religious event.
Ensuring Student Safety Amidst Pilgrimage:
Haridwar District Magistrate Mayur Dixit explicitly declared the holiday, citing the "Shravan Kanwar Mela-2025" as the primary reason. Due to the immense number of Shiva devotees participating in the Kanwar Yatra, major traffic congestion and significant crowd control challenges typically arise. The district government assessed that to facilitate the movement of Kanwariyas and eliminate various issues connected to the pilgrimage, formal classes for students could not be conducted safely.
Continuity Through Online Learning
Despite the physical closure of educational facilities, the District Magistrate's order makes it unequivocally clear that learning activities for students will not cease. Education and training will seamlessly transition to an online mode, ensuring that students can continue their learning progress without interruption. Officials from the Education Department are expected to rigorously enforce this order, demonstrating a clear commitment to maintaining educational continuity and ensuring students' academic progress despite the increased number of religious pilgrims in the city.
Extensive Preparations for the Yatra:
The Kanwar Yatra is a monumental event in Haridwar, attracting an estimated five crore (50 million) Shiva devotees. Extensive planning is underway, involving close coordination between the police and various government departments, to manage this massive influx. Detailed traffic diversion plans for all routes are being finalized to effectively organize the flow of traffic during the fair. Furthermore, security forces have implemented comprehensive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of every pilgrim throughout their spiritual journey through Haridwar. This meticulous planning aims for the purpose, benefit, and satisfaction of every devotee.
The coordinated effort to close schools and implement online learning during the Kanwar Yatra highlights the administration's dedication to balancing religious observance with public safety and educational continuity. This proactive approach ensures a smooth pilgrimage experience while safeguarding students' well-being and academic progress.
