IIT Bombay Placement: The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) last night issued a statement denying rumours that more than thirty per cent of the present class of students are not placed, stating that only six and a half per cent of the students are looking for work.

The university indicated in a post on X (previously Twitter) that the results of an exit survey given to 2022–2023 graduating students, “Lately there has been news that over 30% of IITB students do not get jobs! An exit survey among graduating students in 2022-23 says only 6.1% are still looking for jobs. Here is the survey result for you to decide…”

 

IIT Bombay released a pie chart showing that, of the present batch of students, 57.1 per cent were placed during IIT Bombay placements and 12.2 per cent chose to pursue an additional degree. While 10.3% of students obtained employment off campus, 8.3% of the current class expressed interest in going into public service. Additionally, it stated that 4.3% of all students are still unsure about getting a job, and 1.6% of them wish to launch their own businesses.

Out of all placed pupils, 58.8% of female students were put at IIT Bombay, while 56.7% of male students were placed in positions. The IIT Bombay poll indicates that 5.6% of male students and 8.1% of female students are still looking for work.

In the meantime, IIT Madras released a statement refuting claims that the placements at IITs this year are a bust. They said, “Placements are still ongoing at IIT Madras. Students have varied interests – to pursue higher studies, some want to establish their own startups and venture into entrepreneurship, while some want to attempt competitive exams including civil services. They take time to decide.”

“The placement data will be available at the end of July 2024, post convocation,” the institute added.
