Free online aerospace engineering courses: In a remarkable opportunity for aspiring aerospace engineers and technology enthusiasts, India’s premier engineering institutes — IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, and IIT Kharagpur — are collectively offering 10 free online courses on various cutting-edge topics in Aerospace Engineering. These courses are being offered through the SWAYAM platform and are available absolutely free of cost to all learners meeting the eligibility criteria.

These courses cover foundational as well as advanced topics including aircraft design, propulsion, UAV systems, and flight mechanics. The enrolment window is open until August 15, 2025, with course durations ranging from July to October 2025, and exams scheduled from September to November.

Here's the complete list of the 10 courses:

  1. IIT Bombay

    • Introduction to Aerospace Engineering: Offers a basic understanding of Aeronautical Engineering via 10 modules.

    • Introduction to Aircraft Design: Covers configuration, aerodynamic analysis, life-cycle costing, and more.

  2. IIT Delhi

    • Elements of Mechanical Vibration: Focuses on machinery and structural design vibration theory. Exam on November 2, 2025.

  3. IIT Kanpur

    • Introduction to Airplane Performance: Explains performance, aircraft design, and testing. Exam on September 21.

    • Aircraft Stability and Control: Teaches airplane control and stability. Exam on November 1.

    • Design of Fixed-Wing UAVs: Covers UAV design, performance, and testing. Exam on September 21.

    • UAV Design – Part II: Advanced UAV design and simulations.

    • Airbreathing Propulsion: Teaches jet and rocket engine mechanics. Exam on October 26.

    • Applied Computational Fluid Dynamics: Covers compressible flows, numerical methods, and CFD.

  4. IIT Kharagpur:

    • Space Flight Mechanics: Focuses on orbital mechanics, Lagrange points, and gravitational dynamics. Exam on November 1.

These courses are designed to be self-paced, with video lectures, assignments, and final exams. Though access is free, learners can pay a nominal fee to take the proctored exam and earn a certificate.
