JEE Advanced 2026: The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) has notified five eligibility criteria for the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Advanced 2026), the qualifying exam for IIT admissions. Only the top 250,000 rank holders of JEE Main 2026, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), will be eligible.
The JEE Advanced 2026 eligibility criteria for Indian citizens, OCIs, and PIOs for the academic year 2026 have been made available on the 2026 admission portal, jeeadv.ac.in. All candidates must meet each of the five criteria to appear for the IIT JEE Advanced.
JEE Advanced 2026: Age Criteria, Number Of Attempts & Qualification
Candidates must have been born on or after October 1, 2001. A five-year relaxation is applicable for SC, ST, and PwD candidates, meaning they must have been born on or after October 1, 1996.
Additionally, a candidate can appear for the JEE Advanced exam only twice in two consecutive years, meaning the previous attempt must have been within the same two-year period.
The exam has retained its old rule of allowing only two attempts in two consecutive years. This means that students must carefully plan their Class 12th and JEE Main exam timelines.
Candidates must be appearing in Class 12th (or equivalent) for the first time in 2025 or 2026 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. This requirement is one of the most important determinants for candidates.
JEE Advanced 2026: Exam Dates
The JEE Advanced 2026 exam is conducted for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and is scheduled for May 17, 2026. Candidates who qualify the JEE Mains will be eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced.
