JNU PhD admission 2025: The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has begun the application process for admission to PhD programmes for the academic year 2024-25. The last date to submit the application form will be December 2. Admission to doctorate programs will be based on NET (UGC-CSIR), JRF, or GATE scores. Candidates can apply online by submitting their application forms at jnu.ac.in.
After the application process concludes, candidates will have the opportunity to edit their online application details from December 3 to 4. This can be done through the official JNU website. Applicants are advised to review the e-prospectus for PhD programs available on the university's website to ensure they meet the eligibility criteria, check seat availability, and understand other important details before applying.
Candidates must apply separately for admission through NET (UGC-CSIR), JRF, or GATE (applicable only for the School of Engineering).
Invitations for the viva voce are tentatively scheduled to be sent by December 12, 2024, with the viva voice examination expected to be held between December 16 and 20, 2024. The first merit list is likely to be published by December 30, 2024.
Applicants for Ph.D. programs are required to pay an online application fee of Rs 325, while those applying for Ph.D. in the School of Engineering need to pay Rs 20,545.

Documents and certifications needed for the viva-voce exam:
- Two testimonials, one of which must be from a former teacher of the candidate.
- A complete list of subjects/papers undertaken by the candidate.
- A copy of at least one published paper, if any, showcasing the candidate's intellectual interests and abilities.
- A brief note (one copy) outlining the candidate's specialized research interests, future professional goals, and other relevant details.
- A research proposal to be submitted during the viva voce.
- A self-attested printout of the NET (UGC/CSIR/GATE) scorecard.
- A self-attested valid JRF certificate with fellowship validity dates for candidates applying under the JRF category.
- Foreign national candidates must submit a statement of purpose (SoP) for the Ph.D. program.
