China and India are the largest rice producing countries in the world, together accounting for over half of the global production of rice. Top 10 Largest Rice-Produing Countries in 2025:
1.India: India is considered as the world's biggest producer of rice in 2025. As per the official data, India is set to produce around 150 million metric tonnes of rice in a year. It exports many varieties of rice, from premium Basmati to non-Basmati varieties. India is still considered as the world’s largest rice exporter also.
2. China: China comes on the second spot in the list of the top largest rice-producing countries in the world. It is expected that China produced around 145.28 million metric tonnes on an annual basis. With a population of over 1.4 billion people, most of the rice produced in China is required for their own citizens.
3. Bangladesh: Bangladesh is considered as a significant producer of rice in 2025. This country is among the top global producers with a projected production of over 37 million tonnes of rice in a year. Rice is a staple food in the country, and it's grown mainly in the fertile lands. It sometimes needs to import rice from India to make sure there is enough food.
4. Indonesia: Indonesia is one of the largest producers of rice in the world. It produces about 34.1 million metric tonnes of rice annually, contributing 6% of the world's total rice production. Indonesia boasts a diverse range of rice varieties and it also imports rice to countries like Vietnam and Thailand.
5. Vietnam: Vietnam comes on the 5th position in the list of the largest rice-producing countries in the world. Vietnam produces approximately 26.95 million metric tonnes of rice on a yearly basis, accounting for 5% of global production. The famous rice varieties are long-grain fragrant rices like Jasmine, ST24, and OM4900.
6. Thailand: Thailand is one of the significant producers of rice in the world. It is famous for its high-quality rice, with an annual production of about 20.55 million metric tonnes. It produces various varieties of rice such as aromatic jasmine rice, which is popular in China, the Middle East, and the US.
7. Philippines: Philippines is one of the biggest rice producers in the world. This country produces approximately 12.37 million metric tonnes of rice in a year. The government is working to enhance the farming methods, techniques and increase yields to become more self-reliant in the production of rice.
8. Myanmar (Burma): Myanmar is considered as a significant producer of rice in 2025. It produces around 11.9 million metric tonnes of rice, which is about 2% of the world's total production of rice. Rice is a vital crop and is grown in the fertile area. This country produces a wide variety of rice such as Pawsan (premium aromatic, long-grain white rice) and more.
9. Pakistan: Pakistan is a significant producer of rice in the year 2025. This country produces around 9.72 million metric tonnes of rice annually, which accounts for 2% of global production. Pakistan exports its high-quality rice and is famous for several varieties of the Basmati and Non-basmati rice.
10. Cambodia: Cambodia is one of the largest producers of rice in the world. It produces around 8.47 million metric tonnes of rice on a yearly basis, accounting for around 2% of the world's total rice production. This country has become a crucial exporter of milled rice, especially for the European Union.
