MSJE National Overseas Scholarship Scheme 2026: The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MSJE), Government of India, has officially launched the application gateway for the National Overseas Scholarship (NOS) scheme for the 2026–2027 academic cycle. This central sector initiative annually provides 125 fresh, fully funded slots designed to support high-potential students from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The program enables recipients to pursue full-time Master's or PhD degrees at premier accredited international universities, removing financial barriers to global higher education.
By targeting low-income and marginalised communities, the scheme seeks to foster academic equity and strengthen national capacity in vital developmental sectors. The government has prioritized first-generation college students and applicants with proven financial distress to ensure that the academic grants reach the most deserving candidates. Desiring applicants are encouraged to review the strict eligibility guidelines and prepare their digital documentation early to complete their submissions through the ministry’s dedicated online portal.
Eligibility Framework and Mandatory Criteria for Selection:
To qualify for the 2026–27 scholarship cycle, candidates must fulfill a comprehensive set of academic and economic conditions:
Age Limit: Applicants must be under 35 years of age as of the official notification date.
Academic Record: Candidates must have secured a minimum of 60% marks or an equivalent grade in their qualifying foundational degree.
University Ranking: Applicants must hold a valid, unconditional admission offer from a global institution ranked within the top 500 in the latest QS World University Rankings.
Income Cap: The gross annual family income from all sources must not exceed ₹8.00 lakh per annum.
Target Communities: The scheme strictly caters to individuals from Scheduled Castes (SC), Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes, landless agricultural laborers, and traditional artisan categories.
Comprehensive Financial Benefits and Scholarship Inclusions:
The National Overseas Scholarship is structured as a fully funded grant to ensure that scholars are completely free from financial burdens during their stay abroad. The financial package comprehensively covers:
-Full tuition fees paid directly to the host partner universities.
-Annual living allowances or stipends to manage day-to-day maintenance expenses.
-Return economy class airfare from India to the destination country.
-Standard health insurance coverage and complete visa-processing assistance.
-A one-time settling allowance, alongside dedicated contingency funds for thesis and research materials.
Participating Global Destinations, Core Fields, and Application Steps
The scholarship supports academic research and advanced learning across major global educational hubs, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Canada, and selected top-tier institutions across Europe and Asia. The ministry prioritizes fields aligned with national development, such as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), public health, environmental agriculture, education, and social sciences.
Eligible candidates must register and upload their scanned transcripts, caste certificates, income verification documents, passport copies, and statements of purpose directly on the ministry’s official website. Applications undergo a transparent, merit-cum-need filtering process via a clear scoring matrix, after which selected scholars must sign a formal grant agreement incorporating standard return-to-India service obligations.
