NEET MDS 2024: The National Eligibility and Entrance Examination for Masters of Dental Surgery (NEET MDS) is set for March 18, 2024. The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) administers the NEET MDS examination.

The Student's Union filed an RTI demanding a postponement of the NEET MDS 2024 examination. According to the RTI response, the request to postpone the NEET MDS exam is still 'in process' at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The statement reads: "A few representations regarding the NEET MDS Exam Schedule have been received and are 'Under Process' in this Ministry."

Student Union, AISU's statement

AISU posted on X on Wednesday that they have filed an RTI request for information about the postponement of the NEET MDS 2024 Exam on February 8, 2024. They received a response indicating that it is 'Under Process' in the Ministry.

AISU previously issued a letter to the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Health, emphasizing several critical issues that require immediate attention. Currently, they are concerned about the feasibility of holding NEET MDS 2024 exams in March, followed by the concurrent counselling procedure with NEET PG, and it is projected that their internship will be concluded in August or September 2024.

In their letter, AISU stated that the NEET MDS took place in December 2020, which coincided with the delayed NEET PG exam, ensuring a fair process for students applying to both tests.

Apart from that, AISU expressed concern about the long period of inactivity that dental students encountered between March and the completion of their internships, which might last up to 6-7 months. They are concerned that taking extended breaks may waste crucial time and impair academic development.

What is the Difference between NEET MDS and NEET PG candidates?

The Student Union, AISU, notes the disparity in the notification time, stating that NEET PG candidates were notified of the exam delay six months in advance, whilst NEET MDS candidates were only given two months' notice.

The NEET MDS 2024 was scheduled to take place on February 9, 2024, but it was postponed to January 20, with March 18 being the new exam date.

According to the AISU letter, this delay hampered students' preparedness and deteriorated their mental health.

As a result, the Student Union encouraged the relevant authorities to reevaluate the timetable for the NEET MDS exam, suggesting that it be aligned with the NEET PG exam, which is set for July. This will improve consistency and fairness among NEET MDS 2024 and NEET PG 2024 candidates.
