NEET MDS Cut-Off Date Updates: The Supreme Court declined a decision regarding the extension of the internship cut-off date for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Master of Dental Surgery (NEET MDS 2024), asserting that the Union government is "more suited to take a call on the issue."
Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and the case's presiding judges, Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, emphasised the government's participation in resolving the issue, citing their request for information from the National Dental Commission as a sign of their commitment to resolve the issue.
"We direct that the representation be dealt with expeditiously and preferably within a period of one week from the date of this matter. We clarify that we have not expressed any opinion, and it will be open to the union government to take a call," the bench pronounced, as per the media reports.

Candidates had filed a petition asking the top court to direct the NMC to extend the deadline for the internship cut-off date and postpone NEET MDS 2024 until July. The NEET MDS 2024 exam is scheduled for March 18, 2024. The National Board of Examinations (NBE) concluded NEET MDS registration on February 19, despite the ongoing postponement case.
The petitioners, acting on behalf of a student group, argued that the court's decision could adversely affect approximately 25,000 candidates. During the previous hearing, the senior advocate for the petitioners warned the court that a substantial number of students could lose their eligibility for the exam due to the NMC internship deadline.
