NEET UG 2025 Exam Update:  The Education and Health Ministries are in discussions to determine whether the NEET UG medical entrance exam should be conducted in pen-and-paper mode or shifted to an online mode. A final decision on the matter is expected soon, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced on Tuesday.

Currently, NEET-UG is held offline, with students answering multiple-choice questions on an OMR sheet. However, following a record-breaking 24 lakh candidates who appeared for the exam in 2024 and concerns over security due to a paper leak controversy.

"The administrative ministry of NEET is Health Ministry and hence we are in talks with them about whether NEET should be conducted in pen and paper mode or online mode. We have had two rounds of talks with Health Ministry led by JP Nadda. Whatever option will be considered best suited for conducting the exam, NTA is ready to undertake the exercise," Pradhan said, as reported by news agency PTI.

He further mentioned that reforms are likely to be implemented in the 2025 edition of the exam, with an official decision expected soon. "What will be NEET's methodology, what will be the protocol...a decision is expected soon. We will notify it soon," he added.

NEET is conducted annually for admissions to undergraduate medical courses. A total of 1,08,000 MBBS seats are available through NEET, including approximately 56,000 seats in government colleges and 52,000 in private institutions. The exam also facilitates admissions to courses in Dentistry, Ayurveda, Unani, and Siddha.
