Uttarakhand MBBS Admission Probe: How Did The Investigation Begin?

The investigation follows allegations raised by whistleblower Pradeep Bahuguna, who reportedly submitted a list of around 350 candidates whose domicile and category documents require verification.

The allegations concern candidates who allegedly secured MBBS state-quota seats using questionable or potentially fraudulent certificates. Authorities are now conducting further verification to establish whether the documents are genuine.

350 Suspected Cases Under Verification

According to the allegations, some candidates included in the list had studied at schools in states such as Bihar, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh, or had appeared for the NEET examination from outside Uttarakhand while claiming eligibility for state-quota seats.

Other concerns reportedly include untraceable certificate numbers, discrepancies in certificate status on official portals and certificates allegedly linked to similar address details.

Four MBBS Admissions Cancelled Over FFD Certificates

The probe follows the cancellation of four MBBS admissions after authorities reportedly found that the candidates had used forged Freedom Fighter Dependent certificates.

The cases have raised questions about document verification during state-quota medical admissions. Authorities are examining the wider list to determine whether similar irregularities occurred in other cases.

Dehradun District Magistrate Asked To Submit Report

Minister Subodh Uniyal has directed the Dehradun District Magistrate to conduct the investigation and submit a report within a week, according to the report.

The verification process is intended to be completed while the current MBBS counselling process is underway. The Dehradun Police SIT is also investigating allegations related to fake reservation certificates.
