PM internship Scheme: The Indian government, in partnership with leading industries, is launching a one-year internship program for individuals between 21 to 24 years old. A dedicated internship portal will be launched today, October 3, 2024, allowing candidates to directly apply for positions. Companies will upload their internship openings, and applications can be submitted from October 12 onwards.

This internship program is a significant part of the Prime Minister’s Employment and Skilling Package, aimed at providing practical experience to young graduates across the country. The initiative, first announced in the Union Budget, offers participants the chance to gain hands-on exposure to top companies from various industries.

Scheme Aims to Provide Skill Training to Over One Crore Youth

The internship program is part of a larger effort to provide skill training to over one crore youth in India within the next five years. It focuses on offering opportunities to young individuals, especially those who have limited access to higher education or specialised training, thereby improving their employment prospects.

Stipend and CSR Contributions

Interns participating in this program will receive a stipend of Rs 4,500 per month through direct benefit transfer (DBT). In addition, companies will contribute an extra Rs 500 from their corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds. Eligible companies have been selected based on their CSR spending over the past three years.

Hands-On Experience in Real-World Work Environments

Candidates will get a real-world work environment, moving beyond traditional classroom-based education. Companies also have the option to collaborate with their supply chain associates or partner institutions to enrich the internship experience.

Eligibility and Selection Process

Candidates aged 21 to 24 who are not currently employed full-time are eligible to apply for the program. The selection process involves a backend bot for initial shortlisting, followed by a review and final selection by the participating companies. This system is designed to ensure a fair and transparent process for all applicants.
