School Holiday 2025: December 2025 will see a long list of holidays across India. This month will have a total of 19 non-working days, including weekend breaks and holidays for several regional festivals. In addition to four Sundays and two fixed Saturdays, schools in many states will be closed on different dates due to local festivals and cultural events. Many schools have also confirmed holidays for Christmas and New Year celebrations. Let's read the details below for state-wise school holidays.

State-Wise School Holiday Upcoming Days In December 2025: 

Jammu & Kashmir School Holiday:

Schools in Jammu & Kashmir’s winter zones will remain closed from December 8 to 14 due to plunging temperatures, early snowfall, and dense fog making commuting unsafe. Parents and educators have welcomed the decision, highlighting student safety amid harsh weather conditions.

The administration has also released the full winter vacation schedule for the 2025–26 season:

Pre-primary: 26 November 2025 – 28 February 2026

Classes 1–8: 1 December 2025 – 28 February 2026

Classes 9–12: 11 December 2025 – 22 February 2026

Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Coastal Andhra Pradesh Schools Holiday:

The following are standard public holidays that are generally observed across these regions later in the month:

-Christmas Eve: December 24, 2025

-Christmas Day: December 25, 2025 (Thursday)

-New Year's Eve: December 31, 2025

Winter Vacation/Break:   Varies by individual school, typically begins in late December and lasts until early January.

Additionally, as per the media report, due to continuous rainfall and cyclone-related alerts, precautionary holidays have been declared in many districts between December 11 and 13 across. But as of now, there are no official updates regarding leaves.

Note:  District officials have advised parents and students to remain in touch with local schools for day-to-day updates, as changing rainfall patterns could further impact academic schedules. Schools are taking precautionary measures to prevent disruptions and ensure the safety of children during commuting.

Kerala School Holiday:

In Kerala, schools will remain closed on December 9 and 11 to facilitate local body elections. Both government and private educational institutions are being used as polling stations, necessitating temporary shutdowns.

Telangana School Holiday: 

In Telangana, the State Teachers and Colleges Employees Association (TSTCEA) has formally requested public holidays in:

Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts on December 11, 14, and 17

This request is linked to Gram Panchayat election dates, as several universities, including Osmania University and JNTUH, have scheduled examinations on the same days. Authorities are reviewing whether to declare holidays or reschedule exams to avoid voter turnout issues.

Maharashtra School Holiday: 

In Maharashtra, regular school operations have been severely disrupted due to a statewide teacher and staff strike, especially in areas like Marathwada. Some schools are still operating partially, but many institutions have suspended physical classes due to staff shortages.

Parents are advised to check with individual schools before sending their children to campus.
