School Holiday Today (September 1) Highlights: Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Kerala, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Uttarakhand & Other States Schools Closed Due To Heavy Rain

The Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) has officially announced an extended school holiday for all government and private institutions in the Jammu Division till September 1, 2025.

According to the order issued, all government and private schools, colleges, Anganwadi centres in the region will be closed today, September 1, 2025. The school holiday has been declared for all educational institutions considring the landslides, and heavy rainfall in several parts of Shimla and other regions in the state.

The Uttarakhand (UK) government has declared a one-day holiday on September 1, 2025 (Monday), for all government, and private schools from Classes 1 to 12, as well as Anganwadi centres, in several districts due to the IMD heavy rainfall warning.

1. Jammu and Kashmir - Holidays officially extended till September 1.

2. Punjab - Schools to remain closed till September 3.

3. Kerala - Onam holiday till September 7.

4. Telangana - Extension possible depending on weather.

5. Andhra Pradesh and Uttarakhand - Shutdown in rain-affected districts.

6. Himachal Pradesh - Decisions to continue at the district level.

Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains announced in a post on X that as per the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, all government, aided, recognised and private schools in Punjab will remain closed till Wednesday, September 3, 2025, due to the ongoing flood situation in the state.

1. In Himachal Pradesh, schools were closed on August 30 due to landslides and flash floods in some districts.

2. Officials have said decisions will continue to be taken on a day-to-day basis.

3. If the situation worsens, a holiday may also be declared on September 1 in the worst-affected areas.

Parts of Andhra Pradesh are affected by continuous heavy rains. Local authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation and schools in the worst-affected districts may remain closed on September 1 for safety reasons.

If the heavy rains continue, especially in Hyderabad, Warangal, Khammam, and Nizamabad, schools may remain closed on September 1 as well.

- Schools are observing the traditional 10-day Onam break, which will continue till September 7, 2025.

-Despite heavy rains in the state, families are celebrating the festival with enthusiasm.

In this regard, the Meteorological Department has said in a statement, "A new low pressure area is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal on September 2. In addition, an atmospheric circulation is prevailing over the South Indian regions. Due to this, light to moderate rains with strong winds are likely at some places in Puducherry and Karaikal areas of Tamil Nadu tomorrow (September 1). Although there has been no official announcement yet, school students should prepare to go to school on time by carrying a raincoat or umbrella as usual.

Due to heavy rains and floods in Punjab, holidays of all government and private schools have been extended till September 3. Education Minister Harjot Bains shared this information on social media.

The J & K officials are keeping a close watch on the weather conditions and if the rain continues, offline classes may remain suspended on September 1, while online classes will continue.

1. Jammu Division, Jammu and Kashmir: All government and private schools are closed until at least September 1 due to heavy rainfall and landslides. A decision to reopen will be made after officials assess safety conditions.

2. Uttar Pradesh: Schools are not scheduled for closure on September 1. According to the state holiday list, schools will be open. The next public holiday is Eid Milad-un-Nabi on September 5.

3. Other states: Regional holidays vary, and closures would depend on local events or weather. Some states had closures at the end of August due to rain and Ganesh Chaturthi festivities, but there is no nationwide shutdown for September 1

-Punjab government extends school holidays for next few days, heavy rains expected in next 36-48 hours.

-In view of the flood situation in Punjab, on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab government has declared holidays in all government and private schools in the state till September 3, 2025.

-The IMD, Chandigarh has issued a red alert in nine western districts of the state, warning of heavy rains today.

The Director of School Education, Jammu division, said in an order, 'In continuation of the earlier orders and keeping in view the continuous rains and landslides in the hilly areas, it is ordered that all government and private schools in Jammu division will remain closed on September 1 (Monday).'

Across India, schools will mostly be open on Monday, September 1, 2025, as it is not a national holiday. However, some regions will have school holidays due to local festivals or monsoon-related closures.

Kerala: Schools are closed until September 8, 2025, for the Onam festival.

Arunachal Pradesh: Schools in some parts of the state may be closed from September 1 to September 3 for the Solung Festival, which marks the beginning of the harvest season.

Earlier, in Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had already announced that schools and colleges will remain closed on August 30 due to waterlogging and flooding in districts like Pathankot, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana and Patiala. If heavy rains continue throughout the weekend, the government may announce closure of schools till September 1 for safety reasons.

Many coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh like Visakhapatnam, East Godavari and Krishna are receiving continuous heavy rains. Although the state government has not yet announced a blanket holiday, district administrations in areas with waterlogging and traffic disruptions may declare school holidays on September 1.

Schools in several districts of Himachal Pradesh were closed on August 30 following heavy rains. Officials will review the situation day-to-day and schools and colleges may remain closed in the worst-affected areas on September 1 as well.

J&K Authirities directed schools to remain shut until August 30 because of flood-like situations. To minimise academic disruption, students from classes 9 to 12 are taking online classes. Officials are keeping a close watch on the weather conditions and if the rains continue, offline classes may remain suspended on September 1, while online classes will continue.

The Telangana government had declared a two-day holiday on August 29 and 30 for schools, junior colleges, and degree colleges following a red alert issued by the IMD. If the rains continue, especially in Hyderabad, Warangal, Khammam, and Nizamabad, schools could also remain shut on September 1.

The India Meteorological Department, Dehradun has issued an alert and clsoed schools in Uttarakhand because of heavy rains. 

Deputy Commissioner Meena Nagaraj issued an order on Friday, that all the schools remain closed on August 30, 2025 in several districts .

Allnprimary, secondary, and senior secondary government and private schools will remain closed from August 27 to August 30.

The government and non-government as well as private schools (from Classes 1 to 12) will remain closed today in Uttarakhand amid heavy rains. 

Schools in Kerala are currently closed for 10-day holiday from August 27 to September 7, 2025 due to Onam celebrations.

The schools remained closed for the third consecutive day on Thursday and till August 30, 2025 due to the prevailing weather conditions.

Due to heavy rains from the past few days, the District Educational Officer has announced the closure of teh schools and educational isntitution on August 29th and 30th 2025.

The announcement of school closures was made by the Punjab Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann.

Schools will be closed on August 30, 2025 to ensure the safety of the students and staff. 

Telangana government has also declared school holidays on August 29 and 30 for all government and private educational institutions.
