JE Education Desk: According to reports, schools and other educational institutions in Kerala, Karnataka, and Maharashtra have been ordered to remain closed today, July 24, 2023. In the next four days, Maharashtra is expected to experience severe rainfall, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), which has issued an orange alert for the coastal areas of Karnataka.
India has been experiencing nonstop rain since the beginning of this month. According to IMD weather forecasts, heavy rain is anticipated to return to north India starting on July 25 while it continues to pummel south Indian states.
Several governments have been ordering the closure of schools and institutions due to the flood-like conditions and waterlogging, with the safety of the children in mind. The scenario also forced the postponement of several exams.
Kerala
Kerala was one of the three states to receive an orange alert. In Kerala's northern districts of Kannur, Kozhikode, and Wayanad, schools are not in session today. Seven additional districts in the state, including Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Palakkad, Thrissur, and Malappuram, have now received yellow alerts from the weather service.

Karnataka
In light of the region's severe rain, the Chikmagalur district authorities have declared a holiday for schools in five taluks: NR Pura, Mudigere, Sringeri, Chikmagalur, and Koppa, according to an ANI report. As per IMD, Karnataka's coastal districts would experience significant rainfall over the next 24 hours.
Gujarat
Till now, there is no update regarding schools and colleges closing in this state. Everyone is advised to wait for any kind of official announcement from the government or the school.
Maharashtra
Due to the severe rains in the area, district collector Yogesh Mhase ordered all schools in the Raigad district to be closed today, according to ANI. The directive follows a recent huge landslide that claimed 27 lives in the district. Additionally, Raigad has received an orange alert from the IMD.
